A week in the office

With a job that affords the joy of commercial air travel almost every week, a week of respite in Madison is amazing. Last night I had the pleasure of a double date with my wonderful manfriend and a close friend of his from home and her boyfriend. They are both 4th year med students, waiting with bated breath, to find out where they are headed next year. Thankfully they have both matched; though where, is the question. Family style dinners at Sardine in the winter is always a wonderful way to meet people and have wonderful food! We even met a woman who had taken my favorite class at Brown back in 1989! I was only one! So delicious!

And while I love waking up in Madison instead of some random hotel somewhere across the country, waking up when it is still dark out (thanks to the time change again!) is not appreciated. I felt in a daze all day today! I am however grateful for the wonderful gentleman who cooked me a phenomenal dinner (despite my overactive fire alarms), grateful for duck dynasty on the TV, and the Vom Fass Whiskey in my glass.

Gearing up for a St Patricks Day weekend in Chicago!

Small things.

The State of the Union

I prefer not to watch hundreds of people stand up and down clapping for a President for two hours. I understand from my American history classes the importance (however ceremonial) of this speech and this night in our country, but I still honestly don't care enough to watch on my own. Justice Scalia even described it as a "childish spectacle" and he's probably right. But as all things require compromise, I am compromising and watching the State of the Union. Herein lie my thoughts on this event...

First. What is Michelle wearing? Her dress is reminiscent of an inverted heart on the top, and a funny iridescence on the bottom. No thank you. Also her hair could chill a bit, it is too poofy. But either way, I want your job. Look out girl. I am coming.

Second. I have only been watching for 1 minute and all I have seen is the President's entrance. I cannot hear what those ladies in blue were talking to him about, nor do I care what small talk is going on. I see a lot of opportunity to streamline this workflow.

Third. Obama and Biden's Bro-Shake. I can appreciate some bros in office.

Fourth. John Boenher regardless of political opinion is an old man fox. He's got solid green eyes, dark complexion and good taste in ties. So carry on.

Fifth. Ties. Who knew Congress and the Senate and all of the special guests had such good taste in ties. I see Vineyard Vines, bold colors and some that are just plain BOLD. Way to dress up your suits gentlemen.

Sixth. Nancy Pelosi. Stop with the botox. You aren't fooling any one.

Seventh. Taxes. That reminds me I need to call H&R Block. Obama describes the Small Business form as complicated. This whole process is complicated.

Eighth. I am going to enjoy my whiskey with my knitting and listen to the rest of this speech.

The State of the Union is strong. God Bless You and God Bless America.

Sunday Night Wrap-Up

Nothing says #roadwarrior like a Sunday night without the comfort of my own bed and family style Sunday night dinner. Thinking back on the week, these are the things I am grateful for, found entertaining, or want.

1. the Avett Brothers - My manfriend and I went to see the Avett Brothers last night at the Orpheum. And they were AMAZING. Live they are so enthusiastic and you can really see how talented they are! I never knew they had a cellist in the band and he was probably the most entertainign. The crowd singing "I and Love and You" was my favorite moment. This is a recently uploaded youtube video from the concert when they sang from the loge, no one has posted the "I and Love and You" yet, but I hope someone will. Below is the video I got.

2. Downton Abbey - This one is self explanatory. I can only hope to be as bossy as the Dowager Countess one day. Her one liners are killer and I only wonder if she was this bad ass when she was young.

3. SAMCRO - DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED SEASON 5 - I spent roughly 4 hours this weekend watching Sons. I am a huge Jax fan. Come on, he's a babe. Season 5 is ramping towards the end, and I am getting more anxious as the episodes go on. Pretty soon I am going to need Valium in order to watch. It has been an emotional roller coaster. First someone broke the Opie death to me and then he and my boyfriend covered it up, and then I watched it on my own and was heartbroken all over again. OY! Now watching Jax exact the revenge that is due....ooh child he is smokin.

Long way from "Remember the Titans"

4. Milo & Otis - this popped up on my feed, and I tell you, I am glad I followed the link. This girl is fierce and seeing some fellow Brown Alums in the video makes me happy.

5. Nemo - Nothing makes me more homesick than not being home during a storm. I was in Boston during Draco and then Madison during Nemo. The images of my lovely creature up to her haunches in snow, makes me want to be home, snowed in and drinking hot chocolate, watching some HGTV and playing scrabble. I love me a good blizzard.

And now for the requisite puppy video.
